I inadvertently had some candy with some wheat in it. I’m testing avoiding gluten and dairy to see if they are causing fibromyalgia flare ups. I think it flared me up a bit. I didn’t really feel it last night, but this morning is kind of bad. I couldn’t get to sleep to save my life last night. Must have been after 2 when I finally fell asleep. I feel so tired this morning. Pretty wrecked. Somehow my right achiles is hurting a lot. It didn’t hurt at all yesterday. I’m the only person that strains a a tendon while sleeping. These things are typical for me though. This lack of sleep and maybe fibro flare is causing me a lot of pain this morning, so I’m going to take it easy for a while today. Did a fibro flare cause the lack of sleep, or did the lack of sleep cause a fibro flare? Or was it the small amount of wheat? All I know is I don’t feel as good as yesterday.

I’m testing the candy again with the wheat in it. If it did affect me, it wasn’t much, so it’s worth trying again. I have to do this “for science”. I need to test something like pasta at some point. I’m not very keen on basically poisoning myself. I don’t know if it’s gluten or dairy or both together. I’m happy to avoid both and get some distance between now and the last major flare up. The last ridiculous flare up was cheese perogies with sour cream. Gluten and dairy. My guess is that it’s both and they magnify each other. I could probably get away with small amounts of each.

Well, as usual, 2 hours after eating something with gluten, I feel a fibromyalgia flare up. I didn’t eat much, and wheat was only a small ingredient in the candy, but I feel a slight fibro flare up. I’m hoping it won’t be severe because of the limited amount, but it’s building. Spine pain is ramping. I’m not allergic to gluten and it doesn’t give me digestion issues. I’ve read it can create an inflammatory response in your body, and that’s what triggers the fibro flare up. Next I need to test dairy. I’m guessing that will be an issue also, and I think both of them together are what cause the mega-flares. I’ll wait a few days before I test dairy.

Just did a short walk. I wanted to keep my momentum going. Boy was that difficult. I heavily relied on my cane. That didn’t feel at all like any of the walks from yesterday. Now that I know gluten is out of my diet (until I forget and mess up), I’m hoping for some better days and longer decent streaks.

Went horizontal just after 7. It’s hitting me more strongly than I thought. I was worried it would, so that’s why I forced that walk earlier. I should be able to get through the evening without too much worry and I should be back in business tomorrow. Unless, of course, I’m completely wrong about the gluten.

This flare up has ramped up my pain quite a bit, but the actual fibro is fairly low. This has been a valuable test to see how a small amount of gluten can flare me up. And it’s good to see how the rising fibro flare directly effects the spine pain. Full blown flares increase the spine pain, and they have their own full-body-on-fire type of pain that fully takes over. This has been mile fog in the head and mild full body stuff, but strong spine pain. It has left me with enough mental energy to deal with it and to get through it – as long as there is an end to it, which I expect there to be by tomorrow.
