Sleep was OK last night. It’s amazing how helpful that is, and how hurtful lack of sleep can be. Sometimes I feel like if doctors focused on treating that symptom, people could get healthier faster. It affects every mental and physical illness we can have, and the healing from those illnesses. Sleep medications became taboo even before opioids did. My psych provider flat out refused to give them to me and said, “We don’t prescribe those medications here.” These absolutist policies are born from ignorance and fear, and there is nothing to replace the absence of these medications. The same goes with opioids. The pain management world has become “We’ve tried nothing and we’re all out of ideas.” There is no innovation, there are no new medication, and there is not more treatment of these most debilitating symptoms from whatever illness it might be. They have also moved toward just giving out anti-depressants instead. It’s the oldest and easiest dodge in the book: It’s all in your head. Modern medicine has been failing patients horribly over the last 25 years or so.

I didn’t mean to start off with a rant, but people most definitely need to hear about how bad our medical system is, so that’s fine. I zonked out on my futon for a little bit. I felt really tired and exhausted. I feel that way pretty much all the time, but the last 2 months have been horrible. I’m glad my brain is allowing me to get a little bit of extra sleep. It was only about 10 minutes worth of sleep, but I had an hour of down time that felt a bit refreshing. I’ll take it every time.

Just as I’m complaining about modern medicine, I see a commercial on TV for an amazing medical breakthrough. They now have medication to help straighten out a bent dick! There is officially more research and development being done to help men with crooked dicks then there is for pain and fibromyalgia patients. Nice to know where the priorities are for modern medicine.
